I have taken it out at the AVI resort in needles, ca last month and went from pirates cove to London bridge this past weekend. I was really impressed with the gas millage and handling. I wish it was a little faster but I knew what I was getting into. I was sooooo happy to read thru a lot of good posts and tips! For starters, instead of a truck, I just purchased a Ford explorer XLT and it has towed it with ease. So here are a few of the things I started off with my upgrades.
Premium Yamaha cover 2. Ordered the Seadek trim parts-2x, 3x, 1x, 4x, 11, 12 plan on getting the swimdek when the group coupon kicks in this fall. They arrive this week. Sentry mission fenders- Super easy to use and work well. Adding a JL audio component sub 8. Added the trailer Posts with the ronix covers- Look great! Also looking to upgrade the following in the next month or two: wheels, wake tower subs, 2nd battery and spare tire.Exhaust, intake, underdrives, thermostat and stuff like taht before flash tune as if flash tune done now you will have to tune it again after each mod, which could be expensive.
Braided lines covers on Radiator hoses, power steering hoses, fuel hoses, heater hoses, fuel injector lines. Its all fun buddy.
But that's not a prblem now. I was just as I left. What's rwhp in kw??? Should see better when it gets edit. But Dosn't it piss you off that guys in stock T's and Skylines and the like would still tromp ya even after all that work has been put in. Heat Shield Do not under estimate engine heat - Simple reflective shielding on the air intake pipes and the air box reduced the temprature inside the box by degrees c.
Venturi exhaust boost - try and find my posts from some years ago on this topic. I have removed mine but it did seem to work. Engine bay exhaust fan. I used an old radiator fan from a datsun Y I think - any small one will do and installed it in the engine bay near the right wheel.
Connected to the tacho so it switched on when revs fell below ie idle at the lights or traffic. The result was hot gases that build up in the engine bay during ideling were forced out of the car - engine bay remains COOL.
With more mods on there way the time will still fall and a bass model Xt will go the same way making a non turbo falcon some thing an owner doesn't have to cry about owning. Ok slightly modded T's wamping ya, I dare say a stock T's 60ft would still be better. If you want a cheap rocket put a Boosted RB30 in a gemi or torri, simple. You never know this time next year with the full list of mods and the high out put coils that BPT are playing with low 13s with 4 speed autos may become common place.
More in a T. Go and put a high stall in a stock T and watch the 60ft time and the ET tumble. Ford 4. Prev 1 2 Next Page 1 of 2. Ford's legendary Barra is famous for its tuning potential. So what do you need to hop up a Barra? After a few lean years Blue Oval fans finally had a deep-breathing iron block, alloy headed, 4. Named after the Barramundi fish, the first Barra T made kW and Nm from Ford, but was soon pumping quadruple that as tuners got their hands on the engines. The launch of the BF Series II saw heavily upgraded conrods and revisions to the mechanical package that meant punters could wind the grunt up a lot more than the factory kW.
They changed the intake and went to a smaller turbo to improve performance, but hi-po fans got a kW version in the FPV F6 models — the first Aussie car to make more than hp per litre. Ford Mustang Barra: Sweet Dream.
So, what do you need to hop up your Barra six? However, given you have four litres of capacity and a large GTsized turbo from the factory, many cars get a far less restrictive 3.
Complete upgraded exhaust systems are easier to find than cops at a pizza shop on shift change.
Nizpro Cobra Kits
This was one of the easy ways to double the power of your XR6T, as the stock turbo would make more boost than the bottom-end could take, though you did need to upgrade the wastegate spring.
Serious builds skip straight to larger full-frame new-generation billet-wheeled turbochargers from Garrett and Precision. One of the biggest weaknesses of early Barra motors, apart from the four-speed BTR auto, is the stock connecting rods in the bottom end.
There is no magic power level these will fail at, but Ford recognised they needed to do something and fitted stronger rods to all Barra sixes, including atmo and gas-only engines, for Series II BF models.
It is generally accepted these stronger motors will handle over rwkW, depending on boost levels and rpm. The factory oil pump gears have been known to fail with enthusiastic driving and a few revs, even in lightly modified cars, leading to catastrophic engine failure. The stock valve springs Ford fitted are one part ripe for the bin before you start pushing the kilowatt count past rwkW as they only hold 50psi of seat pressure. Firstly, you need ethanol-rated fuel hose, plus a larger fuel pump and injectors as the ethanol-based fuel requires 30 per cent more capacity than regular premium unleaded.
A rising rate fuel regulator is also a good idea, while several companies sell flex-fuel sensors to allow a mix of 98RON premium unleaded and E85 to be run in the one tank. If you increase boost, upgrade the fuel system and fit a larger exhaust and intercooler then your Barra will need to be retuned to suit those modifications.
Thankfully companies like SCT and HP Tuners can rewrite the stock computer with new parameters that suit your boosted-up engine. Above that there are now several aftermarket ECUs on the market, including the Haltech Elite, which provides full control over wildly modified Barra sixes. Ford Barra turbo - Mill of the Month. By Kian Heagney ProFlo Performance in Rossmore, NSW has built some mental cars and engines over the years, so the numbers behind this monster mill should come as no surprise.
Turbo Barra-powered Ford Mustang. By Tas McMillan Can a six-cylinder Mustang still be called a muscle car? By Matt Reekie 09 Sep The Barra engines are a family of straight 6s and V8s assembled by Ford Australia since Production of the straight 6 is scheduled to continue until at leastwhen an all new Falcon is rumoured. They are a development of the SOHC I6s produced betweenwhich in turn are a development of the Straight 6commonly known in Australia as a " Crossflow".
Common specifications to all I6s Bore: The E-Gas engine is designed specifically to run on Autogas only.
It features a Vialle closed-loop single-point LPG injector-less carburetion system in lieu of the standard sequential petrol injection system. The engine was carried over to the current BF Falcon.
It is similar to the Barraexcept it has a slightly lower compression ratio, a single Garrett GT40 turbocharger and an intercooler. It is similar to the Barra except the exhaust and intake valve timing act independently in the VCT system.
However, the slight increase in power is also due to an increase in compression ratio. It is the same as the Barra except it has a slightly lower compression ratio, a single Garrett GT40 turbocharger and an intercooler. This is the most powerful I6 ever produced by Ford.
The increase in power is achieved through the use of a Garrett GT turbocharger. The extra power and improved fuel economy are due to a revised inlet manifold and a new cylinder head. The engine employs a new turbocharger and intercooler in conjunction with the Barra s updates.
Featuring a larger turbocharger and intercooler, this engine is now the most powerful 6 cylinder engine manufactured in Australia and produces more torque than any Australian engine, including the V8s.
The Barra V8s are based on the Modular enginehowever they are assembled in Australia. All are of the 5. They are named in this way due to the kilowatt output of the engines. Common specifications to V8s Bore: Interesting news on Barra straight 6. Posts: EL XR8 Timmeh banned himself from being a moderator. Todd: Nurse, suction. Nurse: The patient's not even here yet.

Getting Side Ways. Posted: Mon Dec 01, pm. Smokin em up. Why haven't they put that into the FG if its ready?? There is no way the engine can put that much power out from factory!!! Wow that was a good read on the engine.
Thanks for the link. That engine is freakin awesome. Wonder what model Falcon they'll put that into??? Disco Frank. Fordmods Junkie. ACT Cruise Moderator. Stock as a Rock. Posted: Tue Dec 02, am. Posts: I may be dumb but at least i'm not a cop. If you have the Barra wiring and ECU it would be better to install that in to the au but you might have to flash it to remove the smart lock. Fordmods Newbie. I hope this info can help someone as the last conversion post back in stop updating halfway thru The barra swap The engine i'm swapping is a intech from an AUII manual Things that you need from the AUII engine.
Alternator Coil pack and leads both engine mounts the whole mount inc the metal bracket top half of the intake plenum with the throttle body and idle control valve the whole wiring loom from the engine and transmission fly wheel Knock sensor Oil presser sensor Both metal heater pipes that run ether side of the engine the plenum valve vacuum hose that sits on the front cooling hoses Things you need to get new is the pilot bearing if your transmission is a manual the intech bearing will fit the barra if using a t5 from a AU if your car is a manual and has a clutch cable you need to drill a hole in the barra engine where the clutch cable will go thru as the barra dose not have one.
Remove the intech from the car, note if the car is manual unbolt the trans until the 2 19mm bolt on the sides are left then you need to lift the engine and gearbox up until the gearbox hits the trans tunnel.
You need to take the intake cam out and grind the nubs on the back so that the one at tdc is the only one remaining. The oil presser sender is also easy, just remove the barra sender the one with the yellow plug and slot the au one in.
The metal heater hoses that run around the engine will fit the barra you just need to swap some seals as the oring for the thermostat housing is built in.
The coolant hoses will fit straight on but for the upper hose you need to cut some off the end otherwise it bends as the barra coolant hose sits higher up and a bit to the right then the intech. The bonnet should clear the engine as I have the low rise one from a AUI and it clears it fine without cutting so you should be good with the AUII high rise one. That's all I can think of right now. I have recorded most of the swap and will edit it and upload it to youtube or something. You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
Nice one, I'd like to do this at some stage down the track, this is a good resource to have, post up the video URL as I'd be interested to see the process. Fordmods Junkie. Some reading: post Thanks, Snap. I was wondering what I was going to do about the VCT and looking at that thread I think i will disable it for not until I do this conversion with a BF ecu.
Getting Side Ways. Excellent work! How do you find it after the conversion? TUF wrote: How do you find it after the conversion?
Quite abit faster. I'm using a standard manual ECU with no tune or chip as for the cams I got the best power with both at tdc. I need to get some vernier gears to fine tune it. Don't quote me on that, this is the first time I have messed with a barra engine. Disco Frank. Sounds great.
I have a couple of questions if you don't mind.
