I would also use a batch file.I need to write a batch file to use for different users which will create a mapped network drive to a file server but when it runs it should ask me for a username and password so that the user only has access to the folders that they have permission to open.
What sort of environment are you using? Are you using Active Directory? They will be denied access to any other folders they are not allowed access to. I don't think there would be any sensible way of automating this and it is a very bad idea to include passwords in plain text files. If you are working in a smaller company with a small amount of users, just map the drives manually and specify alternate logon credentials during the process.
Thanks for prompt reply Alfie No ad on this network. This is a file sever using win 7 and the user's connect only to back up their work and to dl new doc templates as required. How many people do you have working at the company? If it is a small amount of people, it might be easier to map the drives manually.
My biggest problem is that I have to do it remotely and the users on the other side are not really pc literate. This makes it harder to work with. Ideally, I would like to send the supervisor a batch file that when they run it maps the drives but asks them for their username and pw So each member of staff has a different account. If the account names are the same, you can run:.How to create a login code in bat file with username and password -- script -- asterisk password
So when they log on it will map it your X drive. You can do this all to remote PCssaving you time for beer and bacon. Alfie, yours would be perfect but they do not use their own names for pc's. How would they then add their pw? I am just looking for a way to make this simpler so I can send 1 bat file out to the managers who can insert thumb drive and run bat file.
When it runs it asks for a username and pw and, if correct, creates the mapped drive. If the usernames they connect with are different to the ones they are logged on with, then you need to specify the username like this:. This would obviously mean that you would need a different batch file for each user, which is a pain.
If you could change the usernames on the file server to match the usernames the users logon with, then you will save a whole load of time and hassle. If you can't change the usernames to match, I would also deny them access with their current user accounts to that share, so that they don't map the drives manually and gain access to everything.
