As the XPS 15 has already been reviewed many times previously, we direct you to previous coverage XPS 15XPS 15XPS 15 and long-term review for more detailed information about the chassis, keyboard, trackpad, ports, and audio, as these have not changed since We suggest you read our reviews of the and for more detailed information on the look and feel of this series of notebooks.
Unfortunately, there is still only one colour available for the XPS 15, as well. You and your fingers will notice the abrupt bottoming-out as you type. I am able to type between WPM without any issues in key-detection, which is something I am happy to experience coming from the P1. This means that you will frequently either suffer from accidental clicks while typing, be forced to wait for a few split seconds to type after moving the cursor, or have to disable tap-to-click.
I ended up disabling both tap-to-click options to avoid frequent annoyances while typing, which is not ideal. A highlight is the Goodix fingerprint sensor integrated into the power button same as on the As an interesting side note, DCI-P3 is the standard gamut for film per the major production companies, and as mobile computers like notebooks, smartphones, and tablets are used more and more for media consumption, manufacturers are pushing DCI-P3 displays more frequently.
OLED displays are known for their excellent contrast ratios, and this panel is no exception. The Most Requested Laptop Review - Dell XPS 9570
Luckily, this unit has a centered panel and no issue with uneven brightness. Even the best IPS panels show a little bit of backlight bleed or glow, but OLED skirts these limitations by the pixels being individually lit.
The issue seems to be most prominent when displaying the light shade of grey shown below. The replacement I received was a new not refurbished part, but had a much more severe issue with uneven lighting, illustrated below. When using the laptop at night, I strongly suggest using Night Light to cut the UV spectrum though this is definitely something to do on any displayas the whites can be especially searing. This is quite noticeable when editing text in Word or other apps with white backgrounds.
Greyscale graph courtesy of cosmotography. If you are looking at the above on a properly calibrated IPS display, you should see a clear delineation between 21, 22, 23, and 24, with only 24 being displayed as pure black. The iH is clearly thermally limited, as it is unable to maintain its initial level of performance.
All in all, CPU performance with the iH seems within the margin of error to be no faster than the iH from last year, and I would not expect the 8-core variants to be able to reach their potential based on the thermal issues seen here with the 6-core iH. I would be interested to see how an i9-equipped SKU fares in testing before stating this conclusively, however.
Things change drastically, however, when we put the through its paces in sustained-load GPU benchmarks. The throttling issue has been greatly improved with the 1. Feel free to skip the initial testing results if you are not interested to see how this laptop performed for the first month of its release before Dell put a patch out. Running a Firestrike Stress Test of 10 loops yields a disappointing score of This severe throttling results in games becoming unplayable as the GPU effectively grinds to a halt, and I have to comment that I am quite disappointed to see such an issue crop up on the XPS 15 line once again.
When undervolted by mv on the CPU and repasted, GPU performance stability appears to be much improved for a time when observing a run firestrike stress test:. Unfortunately, this only slightly prolongs the time before the GPU begins to throttle.
Testing in games like Killing Floor 2, Apex Legends, Warframe, and Overwatch yielded the same observed behavior of sudden bouts of unplayability:. After running the 1. Recently released BIOS update 1. Having run the XPS 15 for several hours testing Killing Floor 2, Overwatch, Warframe, and running 3dmark Firestrike stress tests, I observed solid and consistent performance without any major downclocking or temperature spikes.
With the current BIOS 1. On this topic, however, I have been told by a number of owners that a similar throttling issue as originally present on the still exists on the Hopefully, Dell will quickly release a similar BIOS update for the as they did for the newer The XPS 15 maintains exactly the same upgradability as its predecessors.
At least the Wi-Fi module and SSD are still user-replaceable, however, as the XPS 13 series has lost more and more upgradability and repairability in the past two iterations. No major changes to the internals beyond a bit of active cooling on the VRM. At least part of the cause of the high temperatures the saw at stock was caused by excess thermal paste applied in the factory.I bought my XPS 15 in August, and up until now it has been smooth sailing- a fantastic laptop with blazing performance and long battery life.
But lately, it hasn't been able to make it through the day-- at most four hours. At full charge the battery time estimate provided by windows is around an hour and a half. I've scoured through task manager to find any culprits but everything looks normal-- apart from some weird memory usage. The only "culprit" I can find is that Microsoft edge seems to be taking up a ton of battery, which to me is ridiculous considering that's the thing Windows markets it not to do.
I've tried using other browsers but they are all taking up the same amount of battery. Go to Solution. Welcome to the Dell Community FinnJacobson.
A recent update, newly installed software or just a bad battery all could degrade the battery life. It could be a little to late but did you select a custom charge start and stop in the BIOS to extend the battery life?
You also should have options in Power Manager "Battery Extender". Have you tried to run a " Custom Component Test " on your battery? View solution in original post. Browse Community. Find a Reseller. Overview Services Tech Specs. Revolutionary webcam construction: The new XPS 15 webcam isn't just smaller—it's also better.
A new 4-element lens uses more elements than a typical webcam to deliver sharp video in all areas of the frame, while temporal noise reduction uses advanced noise reduction, significantly improving video quality, especially in dim lighting conditions.
Dell’s latest XPS 15 has a speedy processor and gorgeous display, but it isn’t a slam dunk
Finally, the lens is assembled with precise machinery to ensure all points of the image are in focus. InfinityEdge display: The virtually borderless display maximizes screen space by accommodating a One-of-a-kind design: Measuring in at a slim mm and starting at just 4 pounds 1. Visuals are more true to life with wider color range, making it great for content creators. Dazzling detail: With the UltraSharp 4K Ultra HD display xyou can see each detail of every pixel without needing to zoom in.
And with 6 million more pixels than Full HD and 3 million more than the MacBook Pro, you can edit images with pinpoint accuracy without worrying about blurriness or jagged lines. And with over 16 million colors, images appear smoother and color gradients are amazingly lifelike with more depth and dimension.
Included is Dell PremierColor software, which automatically remaps content not already in Adobe RGB format for onscreen colors that appear amazingly accurate and true to life. Beautiful from any angle: The anti-reflective screen combined with superior nit brightness on the UHD display frees you to enjoy your entertainment outdoors.
Plus, the wide-viewing panel provides a wider viewing angle, so you can share your screen without missing a thing. Touch friendly: Tap, swipe and pinch your way around the screen. The optional touch display lets you interact naturally with your technology.
All of that inside an aluminum and carbon-fiber clad chassis with a Windows Precision Touchpad and well-spaced backlit keyboard, plus all the most important ports: two USB 3. InI bought an XPS 15 because it looked like the perfect Windows alternative to the MacBook Pro, with enough performance, battery life, ports, and occasional gaming chops to be whatever I needed it to be on the go.
Aside from slightly more cushion and slightly less click in the keyboard and a slightly whiter aluminum finish, the industrial design is exactly the same. They absolutely are. You can run less intensive games like Overwatch at 4K resolution in a pinch, too. The Dell does last long enough to watch an entire 4K HDR movie at high brightness with some charge left in the tank, though, and I could game for a whole hour on battery. But it also gets notably hotter than my XPS 15 fromto the point it can get uncomfortable to use on a lap for extended periods.
Every smart device now requires you to agree to a series of terms and conditions before you can use it — contracts that no one actually reads. But I read plenty of stories on Reddit of others with the same issues who first had to argue, then ship their laptop to Dell. Thankfully, that turned out to be a really simple fix.
Not a thinner laptop or one with fewer full-size ports, as manufacturers typically tend to do — those are fine as they are. Maybe a carbon-fiber-coated magnesium alloy frame for less heft? Case in point, the Dell XPS I loved last year's model with its heady mix of looks and power, so much so that I didn't think it could get much better. Yes, they also fixed the webcam. There are, however, some trade-offs for all that beauty and power -- the Dell XPS 15's battery life is just over 8 hours. But on a notebook this stacked, I'm betting the eight-hour battery life is a tiny flaw you'll be willing to overlook.
We certainly have, which is why we named the XPS 15 one of the best inch laptopsbest video editing laptopsbest 4K laptops and best laptops for college students.
Aluminum and carbon fiber -- a match made in techie heaven. At least it is when you're talking about an XPS laptop. On the XPS 15, the combination is upscale and modern, something you'd be proud to show off in a coffee shop or board room.
The chrome Dell logo gleams in the center of the silver anodized aluminum lid, just like the slightly chamfered edges of the system.
Adding rigidity and a stylish flair to the mix is the carbon-fiber keyboard deck, which houses the full-size keyboard, a large touchpad and the circular power button playing double duty as a fingerprint reader. As with all modern XPS notebooks, the latest 15 rocks those barely-there bezels, courtesy of Dell's InfinityEdge design. But unlike all but the most recent XPS 13, the webcam on the inch is right where it belongs, smack-dab in the top bezel.
The weight of the Dell XPS 15 is 4. Its dimension is The inch HP Spectre x 4. Dell has outfitted the XPS 15 with enough ports and slots to make it a formidable workhorse. It's one of the few premium systems to offer an SD card reader.
In addition, you'll find a USB 3.

Along the left is another USB 3. Let's give a big round of applause to the latest member of the OLED club. Boasting dramatic, lively colors with rich, detailed contrast, the XPS' I was immediately taken with how the amber street lights glowed against actress Jodie Turner-Smith's warm mocha skin and accentuated each twist in her long box braids as she rode in the car.
Smaller details like the patchiness of Daniel Kaluuya's beard and the small water droplets deposited in his hair from melting snow were easy to see.Sal Maiorana breaks down all the angles in his 3 and Out preview.
Sal Maiorana, Virginia ButlerFrank Gore (23) and Jacoby Brissett lead the Colts into Buffalo Sunday. The fact that they still have a road game at New England makes that scenario a bit unlikely, but the other three games are certainly winnable, and the first of those comes up Sunday at New Era Field when the Indianapolis Colts take up residence on the other sideline.
The Colts are one of the worst teams in the NFL, and the Bills should take care of business even with rookie quarterback Nathan Peterman expected to start.
A win would get Buffalo to 7-6 with Miami in town next week before the game with the Patriots. However, the postseason dream would die Sunday if the Bills falter against Indianapolis. Can the Bills win offensively on the early downs. Indy is allowing just 2. Buffalo, as always, will have to rely on its running game, especially with rookie Nathan Peterman most likely at quarterback in place of injured Tyrod Taylor. But if the Colts stuff the run and put the Bills in unfavorable down and distance situations, that ramps up the pressure on Peterman.
The Colts are solid on the front line, but are weak at linebacker, especially with John Simon getting hurt last week and now out for the season.
This is a matchup the Bills have to exploit with LeSean McCoy. New Bills receiver Kelvin Benjamin caught 3 passes in a 47-10 loss to the Saints. How much will Peterman and Kelvin Benjamin matter to the passing game. However, the Bills need to find a way to take advantage of a Colts defense that ranks dead last in the NFL in passing yards allowed and 30th in sacks per pass attempt.
The last time we saw Benjamin, he was catching a perfectly-thrown 20-yard pass over the middle from Peterman in Los Angeles. He hurt his knee on the play, left the game, and Peterman melted down with five interceptions.
He and Peterman have worked closely for three months on the scout team and have a connection with each other. Can the Bills dominate Colts QB Jacoby Brissett again. Buffalo held him to 205 harmless passing yards and pitched a shutout that day. Brissett has completed only 60 percent of his passes, has a mere 10 TD passes to seven interceptions, and is still learning the full scope of the offensive system as he joined the team right at the start of the regular season.
Gaines can combine to slow down WR T. Theoretically, there is no way the Bills can lose this game. The Colts are awful, as their 3-9 record suggests. Buffalo has the better roster from top to bottom, and that should carry the day.
Last week in their loss to Jacksonville, the Colts were playing three rookie CBs on passing downs.
